4 Tips For Better Sleep

February 16, 2023

Sleep is a crucial aspect of our health and well-being. It helps our bodies recharge and recover, and is essential for mental clarity and emotional stability. While everyone is different for what works best, these are four guidelines to improve your sleep.

✨ Routine

Having a consistent sleep routine helps your body recognize when it's time to wind down and get ready for bed. As someone with a child, that can be a tall order, however, give yourself some grace and have a ballpark. As you are probably well aware, having your child(ren) on some sort of routine does help make life a little easier. With or without kids, figure out a relaxing routine or at least a few moments to yourself to wind down before bed.

✨ Environment

Creating a sleep-conducive environment is a game changer for better sleep. Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Invest in items that help you sleep such as blackout curtains, a sound machine, or

even an extra fan. I have linked some items below I have invested in and have made a huge difference.

✨ Movement

Everywhere always says exercise regularly, and while I personally do exercise regularly, not everyone is in that same mindset. Movement is critical, and that’s what exercise it if you break it down to simplest terms. Go move! Go walk! Go do something that fits in your schedule and doesn’t add any stress to your day. You might find that you enjoy the walk, or that might lead you to buy a bicycle, and then onwards. Spend 20 minutes moving, and if you can, spend it outside in some fresh air and get some light exposure.

✨ Caffeine & Alcohol

Too much caffeine too close to bed can keep you awake, and alcohol on the other hand can disrupt your sleep quality. I love a nice cocktail on a weekend night personally too, and I love a nice cup of good black coffee in the mornings. Listen to your body and watch your intake and timing with both of these.

In Summary

Everyone is different, so the best advice is always “it depends.” Knowledge is power and if you have the capacity, experiment with this information and to to figure out what works best for you. Improving your sleep can have a significant impact on your overall health and well-being. A better you is better for everyone else.
